Purpose

The learning experience aims to enable 11th-grade ELA students to explore their identities by creating a tangible representation of their formative spaces integrated with literary analyses. By reflecting on personal memories, students will develop narratives that connect past experiences with future aspirations, fostering deep self-awareness. The project encourages critical thinking and creativity, with students drawing on historical and literary contexts to enrich their personal stories, culminating in a collaborative multimedia exhibition that highlights diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Learning goals

The learning goals focus on enabling students to draw connections between their personal identities and literary texts, enhancing their analytical abilities and creative expression. Students will develop skills in interpreting the concept of "home" as portrayed in different literary works, while integrating this theme into their own narratives and blueprints. They will practice effective multimedia storytelling, showcasing a blend of visual and textual elements rooted in both historical and personal contexts. Additionally, students will refine their ability to collaborate and empathize through peer reflections and community engagement.

Products

Throughout this project, students will create a detailed blueprint of the "House That Built Them," incorporating visual representations and textual narratives that intertwine personal memories with literary analysis. They will develop an interactive "Memory Mosaic" combining mixed media, audio logs, and hand-drawn elements to express their identity and growth. Each student's project will culminate in a multimedia digital exhibition featuring augmented reality house representations, offering virtual walks through their narratives enhanced with historical and literary insights. Additionally, students will design interactive poster installations with QR codes and an online 'Blueprint Journey' platform to share their stories, allowing the wider community to engage with their personal reflections and creative expressions.

Launch

Embark on the 'Pathfinder Library Walking Tour,' where students, led by librarians, explore a curated selection of books and archives that delve into themes of home and identity. Students will borrow ideas and materials to enrich their blueprints, creating a foundation steeped in literary and historical depth. This immersive experience sets the stage for connecting their personal stories to broader narratives of place and belonging.

Exhibition

Students will showcase their work in an 'Interwoven Narratives Art Installation,' combining their blueprints with artistic representations and multimedia expressions. The exhibit will invite viewers to interact with the students' stories through soundscapes and text excerpts, offering a deeply immersive experience into their formative memories and interpretations of 'home.' Additionally, a 'Reflections & Revelations Gallery Walk' will provide reflection stations, encouraging visitors to write and share their own experiences, thereby creating a communal dialogue.
