Purpose

Dive deep into "Adverica," a fictional universe where you'll construct and explore intricate world-building elements. Engage in the creative process to transform this world into a rich, immersive narrative that is accessible to others. Collaborate with peers and mentors to refine your writing, receive critical feedback, and reflect on your learning journey. Share your developed world as a compelling book or related media through presentations that illustrate the depth and dynamism of “Adverica.”

Learning goals

Your project aims to develop effective communication skills by requiring you to present your work to peers and community members, while also honing your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities as you create a coherent, immersive world in Adverica. You'll engage in self-directed learning through ongoing reflection and utilizing feedback, fostering collaboration by co-designing elements with classmates. The project also seeks to deepen your content expertise in creative writing and world-building, while strengthening your academic mindset by forming an identity and sense of belonging within this fictional world.

  • Effective Communication - Students practice listening to understand, communicating with empathy, and share their learning through exhibiting, presenting and reflecting on their work.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Students consider a variety of innovative approaches to address and understand complex questions that are authentic and important to their communities.
  • Content Expertise - Students develop key competencies, skills, and dispositions with ample opportunities to apply knowledge and engage in work that matters to them.
  • Self Directed Learning - Students use teacher and peer feedback and self-reflection to monitor and direct their own learning while building self knowledge both in and out of the classroom.
  • Collaboration - Students co-design projects with peers, exercise shared-decision making, strengthen relational agency, resolve conflict, and assume leadership roles.
  • Academic Mindset - Students establish a sense of place, identity, and belonging to increase self-efficacy while engaging in critical reflection and action.

Products

By the conclusion of the project, you'll produce a comprehensive study of "Adverica," encapsulating fluid-world building elements within a book or book-adjacent format. Throughout the duration, you'll continuously refine your work through peer, teacher, and community feedback. As part of ongoing reflection, maintain a weekly blog documenting your progress and insights, culminating in an exhibition where you present your study to peers, family, and teachers to demonstrate your effective communication and content expertise.

Launch

Organize a creative brainstorm session where you and your peers imagine the initial concept of Adverica. Use visual aids, such as charts and maps, to sketch the world's geography, cultures, and species. Share your early ideas in a collaborative setting, allowing everyone to contribute to the shared vision while setting the stage for future developments. Establish roles among the group for deeper exploration and planning for upcoming project phases.

Exhibition

Host a "Book Launch and World Showcase" event where you present your book or literary creation, along with interactive displays that delve into the world of Adverica. Design booths that highlight different aspects such as the geography, inhabitants, and unique cultures within Adverica. Facilitate a gallery walk where you can provide insights into your creative process and engage visitors through readings and discussions. Incorporate multimedia presentations or dramatizations to enhance the immersive experience for attendees. Invite community members, families, and peers to participate and provide feedback, celebrating your achievements in world-building.
