Develop initial, low- and medium-fidelity storyboard prototypes for your animation script. Create a low-fidelity storyboard using paper or index cards that maps key scenes, character moments, and voice cues. Then build a medium-fidelity mockup (digital storyboard, simple slides, or annotated panels) that shows scene flow, pacing, and suggested audio. Maintain an iteration log that records changes between versions and the reasons behind them, incorporating insights from live readings with peers and community partners. Submit the prototypes along with the iteration log.

# What teachers do
1 [10] Begin with a brief introduction of the day's objectives and the role of low- and medium-fidelity prototypes in the animation script development process.
2 [30] Develop low-fidelity storyboards using paper or index cards, mapping out key scenes, character moments, and voice cues. Reflect on your script and translate it into visual representations.
3 [30] Engage in peer-feedback sessions. Exchange your low-fidelity storyboards with a partner, explain your vision, and gather feedback focusing on the clarity and impact of your scenes.
4 [15] Collaborate with community partners or peers who have gathered feedback from Southwestern college contacts, if available, to gain additional insights on your storyboard.
5 [35] Develop medium-fidelity mockups using digital tools or annotated panels. Focus on scene flow, pacing, and integrating suggested audio including indicative voice recordings.
6 [30] Conduct live readings from your medium-fidelity storyboards with peers and community partners. Listen to the voice recordings and adjust your storyboard based on the pacing and audio integration.
7 [30] Reflect and document changes and decisions in an iteration log. Note feedback received and how it has been integrated to improve narrative coherence and communication of the storyboard.
8 [30] Share your storyboard prototypes. Facilitate a gallery walk where peers and community members can view, critique and discuss your work. Aggregate feedback for further reflection.

  • Ensure all necessary materials such as paper, index cards, digital devices, and audio recording tools are available and functioning.
  • Coordinate with community partners to arrange their participation in feedback and live reading sessions.
  • Prepare a structured template for the iteration log to guide students in documenting changes effectively.
