Purpose

The purpose of this project is to create a compelling animation script that conveys a universal message of hope and resilience through storytelling. By embarking on a quest narrative, you'll develop a deeper understanding of character motivation and plot development while practicing essential writing skills. Engage actively with community partners and peers, receiving voice feedback to refine your script. Showcase your final work through a dynamic exhibition, presenting both the written script and voice recordings. Leverage self-directed learning and peer collaboration to enhance communication, critical thinking, and content expertise throughout the project.

Learning goals

You will strengthen your communication skills by presenting your script and sharing voice recordings, focusing on empathic storytelling and engaging your audience. This project will enhance your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities as you collaborate with Southwestern college and peers to refine your script and address narrative challenges. You will develop content expertise by co-designing, critiquing, and revising your script, applying creative writing techniques to deliver a universal message of hope. Through self-directed learning, you will utilize feedback to refine your work, gaining deeper self-awareness and managing your learning journey effectively.

Products

Create a riveting animation script that tells the story of a young boy on a quest for shattered crystals with the power to grant wishes. Assemble a voice-recorded performance of the script, showcasing both the narrative and the empathetic communication of each character. Involve peers and community partners to co-design the final exhibition, offering a multi-perspective view of the universal message of hope conveyed. Aim for an online showcase that captures the interest of students, teachers, and the community, broadening the reach and impact of the project.

Launch

Begin your project by organizing a live script reading that includes voice actors from Southwestern College to bring your story to life. This interactive session will serve as both a creative inspiration and a practical critique opportunity. Engage with community partners to help coordinate and host this event, allowing you to receive immediate feedback and understand audience reactions. Encourage your peers to offer suggestions for revisions to improve your script's impact, ensuring it aligns closely with your essential question of inspiring hope and overcoming challenges.

Exhibition

Create a multimedia presentation that showcases your completed animation script and corresponding voice recordings. Invite teachers, peers, and community members interested in storytelling to attend. Facilitate the reading of selected dialogue by voice actors live, followed by a discussion on the themes of hope and personal challenge. Include a feedback session where attendees can provide constructive critique and celebrate your creative journey. Use this event as an opportunity to reflect on your writing and how you've communicated your narrative effectively.
