Purpose

Your senior project aims to immerse you in the dynamic world of DJing by exploring the historical and technological evolution of music genres. Over the course of 5 weeks, you'll creatively collaborate with peers and engage with community experts to develop technical mixing skills and cultural understanding. This hands-on experience is designed to foster critical thinking, effective communication, and self-directed learning as you develop a comprehensive DJ set that reflects diverse musical influences.

Learning goals

Develop critical skills as you design and perform DJ sets, integrating historical and cultural music influences. Strengthen collaboration through co-designing the project, engaging with peers, and learning from professional DJs and music studios. Enhance communication by presenting your work at the Interactive Music Timeline Expo, practicing active listening and reflection. Cultivate self-directed learning by setting personal goals, seeking feedback, and iterating on your work as you develop and refine your DJing techniques.

Products

Collaborate with your peers to coordinate an Interactive Music Timeline Expo, where you display annotated timelines in partnership with a music production studio. By the end of the project, you will develop and perform a live DJ set that illustrates the integration of cultural and historical influences. These products will highlight your development of key mixing skills and showcase the diverse musical styles and their cultural roots explored during the project.

Launch

Coordinate the 'Mix Masterclass Live' session with a local DJ to initiate your project. This event will immerse you in the creative process from a professional perspective, offering valuable insights into the art and technique of DJing. During this masterclass, have an interactive Q&A segment where you can directly inquire about genre blending, historical influences, and technical skills. Use this session to gain inspiration and practical guidance that will shape and refine your approach to the project.

Exhibition

Organize an 'Interactive Music Timeline Expo' at a music production studio where you can display your annotated music timelines alongside live DJ performances. Highlight how you’ve integrated historical and cultural influences within your DJ sets. Engage the community by inviting local DJs, music producers, and peers to attend, offering feedback and celebrating the development of your musical journey. Include opportunities for visitors to participate and interact with the expo, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for all attendees.
