Purpose

This project immerses 10th-grade students in the real-world dynamics of NFL teams and their economic impact on local communities. Through hands-on activities, students will explore the intricate relationships between sports franchises and community development, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By engaging with community partners and participating in interactive simulations, students will gain a deeper understanding of team dynamics, economic contributions, and the broader implications of sports on society.

Learning goals

Students will explore the economic impact of NFL teams on local communities by engaging in hands-on activities that simulate real-world scenarios. They will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they analyze data and collaborate with peers and community partners. Through self-directed learning, students will reflect on their findings and refine their understanding of economic principles. By the end of the project, students will have created a comprehensive multimedia presentation that demonstrates their ability to synthesize information and communicate complex ideas effectively.

Products

Students will create a multimedia presentation showcasing the economic impact of an NFL team on local businesses, incorporating infographics, interviews, and case studies collected during the project. Additionally, they will compile a research portfolio featuring articles, data analysis, and personal reflections on the team's community effects. To culminate the project, students will perform skits or role-plays at the 'Game Day Showcase,' dramatizing the economic ripple effects of an NFL game on local businesses.

Launch

Begin the project with an immersive 'Kickoff Rally' where students rotate through interactive stations that simulate roles within an NFL team, such as management, marketing, and community engagement. This hands-on experience will provide insight into the diverse aspects of a team's economic impact, setting the stage for the week's exploration. Students will engage in activities that mimic real-world scenarios, fostering a sense of identity and belonging as they collaboratively strategize on maximizing economic benefits for the community.

Exhibition

Students will host a 'Game Day Showcase' event, where they perform skits or role-plays to illustrate the economic ripple effects of an NFL game on local businesses. Invited guests from the community relations department will provide feedback and insights, enhancing the authenticity and impact of the presentations. This interactive exhibition allows students to creatively demonstrate their understanding while engaging with real-world stakeholders.
