Purpose

This project aims to immerse students in the historical significance and cultural richness of the Silk Road through hands-on activities and digital storytelling. By engaging in role-play, collaborative simulations, and creative video production, students will explore the complexities of resource allocation and economic incentives that shaped global trade. The integration of TikTok as a modern platform allows students to creatively express their understanding and connect historical events with contemporary digital culture. The project fosters critical thinking and collaboration, encouraging students to analyze and communicate the enduring impacts of the Silk Road in a way that resonates with their own experiences and interests.

Learning goals

Products

Students will create TikTok videos showcasing historical trade encounters or cultural exchanges on the Silk Road, using props and costumes. They will develop interactive booths for the Silk Road Expo, featuring digital artifacts like maps and trade goods replicas. Additionally, students will produce role-play scripts and visual presentations for the marketplace simulation, highlighting their understanding of resource allocation and economic incentives. Throughout the project, students will collaborate to design and curate these products, ensuring they reflect the cultural and economic impacts of the Silk Road.

Launch

Kick off the project with a dynamic 'Silk Road TikTok Challenge,' where students create engaging short videos reenacting historical trade encounters or cultural exchanges. Encourage creativity by using props and costumes to vividly bring the Silk Road to life. This activity will spark curiosity and set the stage for deeper exploration of the Silk Road's cultural and economic impacts.

Exhibition

Students will showcase their learning at the 'Silk Road Expo,' where they will present interactive booths filled with digital and physical artifacts. Each booth will feature maps, replicas of trade goods, and TikTok videos created by the students, illustrating the cultural and economic impacts of the Silk Road. Attendees will engage with the exhibits, gaining insights into the historical significance of the Silk Road through the students' creative presentations.
