Purpose

Dive into the world of true crime by creating a podcast that hones your verbal and written communication skills while engaging your audience. Use design thinking to craft a visually striking podcast cover that encapsulates the essence of the stories you tell. Through this project, you'll develop critical thinking and investigative skills, explore creative expression, and gain insights into storytelling and design.

Learning goals

Develop the ability to effectively use verbal and written communication to engage and inform your audience about true crime cases. Apply design thinking principles to create a visually compelling podcast cover that reflects the essence of the story. Enhance your research and investigative skills to present accurate and thought-provoking content. Cultivate critical thinking by analyzing and synthesizing information to form coherent narratives. Reflect on your creative process and growth through maintaining a reflective journal documenting your experiences and insights.

Products

By the end of the project, you will produce a polished true crime podcast episode that demonstrates your verbal and written communication skills. You will also design a visually engaging podcast cover that reflects the essence of the story. Throughout the process, you will create a series of reflective journal entries documenting your learning experiences, challenges, and growth. These products will showcase your ability to engage audiences and apply design thinking principles effectively.

Launch

Begin with an interactive 'Podcast Cover Design' workshop where you brainstorm and sketch initial ideas for your podcast cover. Use design thinking principles to explore different visual elements that capture the essence of your chosen true crime story. Share your sketches with peers to gather initial impressions and refine your concepts. This collaborative session will set the stage for your podcast creation by emphasizing creativity and audience engagement from the start.

Exhibition

Organize a podcast showcase event where you present your final podcast episodes and covers to classmates, teachers, and family members. Set up listening stations for your audience to experience your work and provide feedback on both the storytelling and visual design. Include a Q&A session where you discuss your research process, design choices, and the critical thinking involved in developing your podcast. Display your reflective journals as part of the exhibition to highlight your learning journey and insights gained. Celebrate the completion of your project with a certificate or recognition ceremony for your hard work and creativity.
