Purpose

The purpose of this learning experience is to engage students in understanding the water cycle through hands-on activities and real-world applications. By participating in debates, peer reviews, and collaborations with community partners, students will develop models and campaigns that highlight the significance of sustainable water practices. This project-based approach encourages students to explore the roles of water in Earth's processes while enhancing their self-advocacy and public policy competencies.

Learning goals

Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the water cycle, including the processes of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, and their impact on Earth's systems. They will enhance their public speaking and self-advocacy skills by engaging in debates and creating public service announcements. Additionally, students will learn to collaborate effectively with peers and community partners, applying scientific concepts to real-world scenarios and advocating for sustainable water practices. Through reflection and exhibition activities, students will connect scientific knowledge to personal and community experiences, fostering a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship.
Standards

Products

Students will create a multimedia presentation that showcases their public service announcement campaigns, emphasizing the significance of the water cycle and promoting sustainable practices. These presentations will be shared during the Meteorology Meet-Up, where students will have the opportunity to present their findings and engage in discussions. Additionally, students will produce annotated diagrams of the water cycle, reflecting on personal connections and the impact of weather patterns on their lives.

Launch

Exhibition

Host a Meteorology Meet-Up where students present their multimedia public service announcement campaigns to classmates, teachers, and invited guests. During the event, students engage in a live Q&A session with the local meteorologist, sharing insights and asking questions about weather applications and career paths. This interactive exhibition allows students to showcase their understanding of the water cycle and advocate for sustainable water practices while connecting with community experts.
