Purpose

The "Imit-arte" project immerses students in a bilingual exploration of art and culture, enhancing Spanish language skills through engaging with famous artworks. Students create their own art, write biographies, and express their insights in Spanish. The project builds community and identity through collaboration and interaction with local Spanish-speaking partners, culminating in an exhibition presented entirely in Spanish.

Learning goals

Students will describe and compare famous artworks exclusively in Spanish, enhancing both language proficiency and cultural understanding. They will read artist biographies and analyze the impact of their work, using Spanish to articulate insights. By creating original art pieces, students will foster creativity and critical thinking. The project encourages self-directed learning through peer reviews and community presentations conducted entirely in Spanish.

Products

Students will create art installations inspired by famous artists, with Spanish audio guides recorded by themselves. These will be showcased in an art exhibition conducted entirely in Spanish, where students present their work and articulate their learning. Students will also develop short biographies in Spanish of the original artists to display alongside their art pieces.

Launch

Kick off the experience with "Masterpiece Mystery," where students solve riddles about famous artists using Spanish vocabulary. This interactive activity encourages collaboration and curiosity, setting the stage for exploring art and language exclusively in Spanish, immersing students in the linguistic aspect right from the start.

Exhibition

Students will host 'Arte y Amistad', an interactive art fair showcasing their art pieces with descriptions and artist biographies exclusively in Spanish. They will engage in discussions with local Spanish-speaking artists and community members, fostering dialogue about art and culture. This exhibition allows students to articulate their learning in art and language, receiving feedback from community partners.
