Purpose

This project aims to foster a culture of health and wellness by leveraging the influence of high school athletes to inspire and educate younger students on fitness and nutrition. Through interactive workshops, collaborative activities, and reflective practices, students across grade levels will explore the impact of healthy lifestyle choices on physical performance and well-being. By engaging in hands-on learning and community partnerships, participants will develop critical thinking and collaboration skills, empowering them to make informed, lifelong health decisions.

Learning goals

The learning goals for this project include understanding the principles of nutrition and fitness, and how they contribute to overall health and performance. Students will develop skills in creating balanced meal plans and engaging in safe physical activities that enhance strength and flexibility. They will also cultivate collaboration and critical thinking by designing interactive workshops and reflecting on their progress through journals. High school athletes will serve as mentors, fostering positive relationships and inspiring younger students to adopt healthy lifestyle choices.

Throughout the project, students will create Fitness and Nutrition Journals that document their daily activities, meals, and reflections. High school athletes will design and lead interactive workshops, producing engaging lesson plans and materials tailored for younger students. By the end, students will present their journals and insights at the Healthy Living Showcase, sharing their journey and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Additionally, students will develop simple, healthy meal plans and snacks, culminating in a digital collection of recipes and fitness tips accessible to the community.

Launch

Begin the project with a vibrant 'Fitness Fiesta,' where high school athletes lead younger students in engaging physical activities and energetic games, emphasizing fun and teamwork. Incorporate a dynamic group dance session to boost excitement and participation, setting a positive tone for the project. Conclude the event with a brief introduction to the project's goals, inspiring students to embrace healthy lifestyle choices through the upcoming activities.

Exhibition

Students will culminate the project with a 'Healthy Living Showcase,' where they present their Fitness and Nutrition Journals to an audience of parents, peers, and community partners. Each student will share personal stories and insights gained throughout the project, highlighting their journey and growth. The showcase will also feature interactive stations where high school athletes and younger students demonstrate exercises, healthy recipes, and dance activities, fostering a community-wide celebration of healthy living.
