Purpose

Students will explore the diverse landscape of healthcare facilities and delivery models to understand their impact on community health. Through engaging with healthcare professionals and community partners, students will gain insights into the roles and responsibilities within various healthcare settings. The project encourages students to critically assess local healthcare needs and propose solutions, culminating in a presentation to community members and an exhibition for an advisory board. This hands-on experience aims to deepen students' understanding of healthcare systems and their influence on patient outcomes.

Learning goals

Students will explore the diverse roles and responsibilities of healthcare facilities and providers, examining how these elements contribute to patient outcomes and community health. They will engage with real-world healthcare scenarios through guest speaker sessions and community partnerships, fostering a deeper understanding of local healthcare needs. By reflecting on community-specific healthcare requirements and presenting their findings to community members, students will develop critical thinking and communication skills, culminating in a collaborative project that showcases their insights and proposed solutions.

Products

Students will create detailed poster boards that illustrate the roles of various healthcare facilities and the responsibilities of different healthcare providers. These poster boards will incorporate research findings and insights gained from guest speaker presentations and community partner interactions. The final product will be presented to community members, showcasing students' understanding of how healthcare delivery models impact patient outcomes and community health.

Launch

To kick off the project, invite guest speakers from local healthcare facilities, including representatives from Assisted Living Communities and Adventist Health Castle Hospital, to share insights on their roles and the impact of different healthcare delivery models. Encourage students to actively engage by preparing questions related to the essential question: "How do various healthcare delivery models impact patient outcomes and overall community health?" This interactive session will set the stage for students to explore the healthcare needs of their community and the types of facilities required.

Exhibition

Students will present their findings and poster boards at a community exhibition hosted by the Advisory Board. This event will be open to community members, healthcare professionals, and representatives from local healthcare facilities, including Assisted Living Communities and Adventist Health Castle Hospital. Students will engage in discussions about their projects, receive feedback, and answer questions, allowing them to showcase their understanding of healthcare delivery models and their impact on community health. This exhibition will serve as a platform for students to connect with real-world healthcare challenges and contribute their insights to the community.
