Learning Goals
Students will be able to design and construct a water bottle rocket that meets launch criteria and supports a successful flight.
Students will be able to calculate and interpret rocket flight measurements from a simulation and real launch data, including maximum height and time to reach the peak.
Students will be able to graph the real rocket flight and write a quadratic equation that models the trajectory.
Students will be able to reflect on the rocket flight and explain how well the design and model matched the actual results.
Products
Rocket Design Sketch
A simple sketch of the water bottle rocket design, labeled with the main parts and basic construction ideas. It should show the student’s plan for a rocket that can fly successfully.
Flight Math and Reflection Sheet
A simple sheet with calculations from the simulation and real rocket flight, plus the graph and quadratic equation for the real launch. It also includes a short reflection on how the rocket flew and how well the model matched the flight.
Flight Portfolio
A digital portfolio showing the process of building the rocket, connecting previous knowledge of quadratic equations, the model of the flight of the group rocket, and the answers to the reflection questions
