PE Revolution: Engage, Inspire, Participate!

Brenda Hardison

Purpose

This project seeks to create vibrant, inclusive PE classes that inspire all students to engage actively. By partnering with community experts and exploring innovative strategies, students will delve into a variety of sports and fitness activities, cultivating a sense of community and excitement. Through practical experiences and student-led efforts, the project supports students in shaping their physical health journey while honing their leadership and communication abilities.

Learning goals

The learning goals for this project include enhancing students' ability to research and integrate fitness technologies into PE activities, fostering leadership and communication skills through planning and conducting fitness sessions, and developing critical thinking by evaluating and revising PE strategies for inclusivity and engagement. Students will also learn to collaborate effectively with peers and community partners and gain insights into diverse sports and fitness activities. Additionally, the project aims to cultivate reflective practices by encouraging students to document and analyze their personal growth and socio-emotional experiences throughout the process.

Products

Students will create a series of interactive fitness videos showcasing diverse and engaging activities, designed to be shared with the school community to promote inclusive participation in PE. They will develop multimedia presentations that outline their strategies for enhancing PE engagement, incorporating audience interaction to gather feedback. Additionally, students will plan and lead a fitness session or demonstration, applying their research on fitness technologies and inclusive practices.

Launch

Begin the project with an interactive 'Fitness Adventure Day,' where students explore a range of unconventional sports and fitness activities at different stations. These activities will be guided by local sports teams and fitness professionals, offering students practical exposure and diverse perspectives on physical activities. This event is designed to ignite enthusiasm, cultivate curiosity, and lay the groundwork for students to investigate creative approaches to increasing PE participation.

Exhibition

Host a dynamic "PE Innovation Showcase" where students present their interactive fitness videos and lead live demonstrations of their redesigned PE activities. Invite community partners, local sports teams, and the school community to participate and provide feedback. Encourage audience members to engage in the activities, fostering an inclusive and celebratory environment that highlights student creativity and collaboration.
