Purpose

The purpose of this project is to guide high school students in exploring and identifying potential career paths by aligning their personal interests and skills with various professions. Through a series of three engaging and interactive lessons, students will develop critical thinking and self-assessment skills, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future aspirations. By participating in peer reviews, interacting with professionals, and presenting their findings at a career fair, students will gain valuable insights into the world of work, fostering curiosity and a deeper understanding of how their unique attributes can influence their career choices. This project aims to inspire students to envision their future possibilities and understand the connection between their current learning and future opportunities.

Learning goals

In this project, students will engage in critical thinking and problem-solving by researching various careers, analyzing job demands, required education, and potential challenges to make informed decisions about their future aspirations. They will develop self-assessment and reflection skills by identifying their interests, strengths, and skills, and exploring how these align with potential career paths. Through peer review and feedback sessions, students will enhance their communication and presentation skills. The project will also foster curiosity and engagement by connecting students with professionals from diverse industries, allowing them to gain insights into real-world career experiences. Ultimately, students will create a digital portfolio showcasing their research and reflections, demonstrating how their personal attributes can influence career choices.

Products

In this three-lesson project, students will create a digital portfolio that showcases their exploration of a chosen career path. This portfolio will include multimedia presentations such as videos, infographics, and written reflections. Students will conduct research on different careers, analyze how their personal interests and skills align with these paths, and present their findings. The project will culminate in a Career Exploration Showcase, where students will present their research and reflections to family, teachers, and community members. Through these activities, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, self-assessment, and reflection skills, allowing them to make informed decisions about their future aspirations.

Launch

To kick off the project, organize a "Dream Job Discovery Day" spread across three lessons. This engaging launch event will involve inviting professionals from various fields to participate in a 'speed networking' session with the students. Arrange tables where each professional sits, and have students rotate between them in small groups across the lessons. During these brief interactions, students can ask questions and learn about the professionals' career paths, daily responsibilities, and the skills and interests that led them to their current roles. This dynamic and interactive experience will spark students' curiosity and provide them with real-world insights into diverse career options, setting the stage for their own career exploration journey.

Exhibition

Organize a Career Exploration Showcase where students present their digital portfolios to an audience of family members, teachers, and community members. Create an interactive exhibition space with booths or stations for students to display multimedia presentations, including videos, infographics, and reflections. Encourage students to engage visitors by explaining their research process and career path exploration, highlighting how it aligns with their interests and skills. This event allows students to practice public speaking and receive feedback from a broader audience, while celebrating their efforts. Invite local professionals who participated in the project to attend, offering students further opportunities to connect with experts in fields of interest.
