Launch
Students will launch the investigation by gathering evidence about familiar materials, proposing atomic-scale explanations, and refining questions that can guide an interactive “Atoms in Daily Life” exhibit.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will analyze evidence behind atomic models and periodic patterns, then use that knowledge to develop and peer-review a focused investigation plan for an interactive mystery-material exhibit.
Days 3 - 5
Build & Investigate
Build & Investigate
Students will gather systematic evidence about familiar materials, spectra, periodic patterns, a simple reaction, and nuclear processes, then use peer and community-partner critique to revise components of their interactive exhibit. They will maintain traceable evidence records, document anomalies and limitations, and connect their findings to how atomic structure shapes daily life.
Days 6 - 8
Analyze & Rehearse
Analyze & Rehearse
Students will analyze patterns and anomalies in their evidence, revise scientifically accurate portfolios and interactive exhibits, and complete a feedback-driven rehearsal with peers and community reviewers before the public showcase.
Days 9 - 11
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present and defend their completed atomic-science investigations to peers, school faculty and staff, and community reviewers, then use audience feedback to make a final targeted revision and reflect on their learning.
