Launch
Launch
Students will launch a six-week investigation by comparing warm-day hail events, learning how atmospheric temperature and particle state differ with altitude, and creating an initial evidence-based storm model. They will critique and revise models, consult a university atmospheric science partner, preview the three-dimensional display and Sky Science Museum Night, and update individual progress trackers after every lesson.
Days 1 - 3
Question & Plan
Question & Plan
Students will refine questions about variable precipitation, develop testable hypotheses, and create a safe, peer-reviewed methodology for investigating cloud formation and storm movement.
Days 4 - 9
Investigate & Record
Investigate & Record
Students will conduct a safe cloud-formation investigation, systematically gather weather and storm-path evidence, document anomalies, and audit the quality of their team records. They will maintain individual notebooks and update progress trackers after every lesson in preparation for evidence-based modeling in the next phase.
Days 10 - 15
Analyze & Model
Analyze & Model
Students will transform investigation data into visual evidence, test explanations against patterns and anomalies, and apply particle, water-cycle, air-mass, and circulation concepts to a three-dimensional storm-path model. They will critique competing interpretations, revise their models, and document an evidence-based big idea after every lesson.
Days 16 - 21
Revise & Rehearse
Revise & Rehearse
Students will evaluate peer and expert feedback, resolve conflicting evidence, revise their three-dimensional weather-system and South American climate displays, and rehearse evidence-based explanations before Sky Science Museum Night.
Days 22 - 27
Showcase
Showcase
Students will calibrate and revise their scientific explanations, present interactive three-dimensional weather-system displays to an authentic audience at Sky Science Museum Night, and complete an individual evidence-based explanation and reflection using audience feedback.
