Students will enter the project through a fast-paced decision challenge, test how limited and conflicting evidence shapes judgment, and begin using source-based reasoning to examine whether French Revolution choices were justified at the time.
Days 1 - 2
Choose A Position
Choose A Position
Students will commit to a historically defensible position on a French Revolution decision, test that position against competing viewpoints, and produce an initial claim set with reasons, counterpoint, and early impact thinking that will guide later source investigation and argument writing.
Days 3 - 8
Investigate Evidence
Investigate Evidence
Students will evaluate primary and secondary sources about a French Revolution decision, test their position against conflicting evidence, and build a structured evidence map that prepares them to argue with accuracy, context, and fairness.
Days 9 - 13
Argue And Defend
Argue And Defend
Students will turn their researched evidence maps into persuasive historical arguments, strengthen warrants and counterarguments through critique, rehearse speaking with museum-style display components, and complete a scored class forum defense before the final showcase.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their final French Revolution arguments through the Hall of Choices Showcase, defend their reasoning with evidence in front of an authentic audience, and reflect on which arguments were most convincing and how present-day values shape historical judgment.
