Students will launch their investigation of how art grows from simple marks into more detailed creations by experimenting with color mixing, noticing changes in sketches and samples, and beginning the routines they will use for portfolio evidence, reflection, and revision across the project.

Students will revisit a surprising color-mixing result, turn their observations into focused investigation questions, and co-plan how to gather evidence through a sketch, color test, and finished piece for the next phase. They will practice noticing patterns, making simple hypotheses, giving feedback to peers, and preparing a portfolio page structure that can document how art changes over time.

Students will collect clear evidence of how their art grows by making a sketch sequence, color tests, and one finished artwork, then organizing those pieces on a portfolio page with a brief reflection and a midpoint quality check.

Students will analyze the evidence in their sketches, color tests, and finished artworks to identify patterns, surprises, and limits in how art changed across the investigation. They will use peer and teacher feedback to make one targeted revision, select portfolio pieces for display, and prepare a brief artist statement and evidence-based conclusion for the upcoming gallery.

Students will present their sketch-to-showcase evidence to families and a library partner, explain how their art changed from first marks to finished work, and complete a final teacher conference that confirms portfolio quality, reflection, and exhibition readiness.
