Launch
Launch
Students will launch the cookbook project by analyzing what makes a healthy meal realistic for busy high school students, then practice foundational safety, knife, flavor, and decision-making skills through a guided lab. They will generate an initial meal concept grounded in user needs, time, cost, and dietary considerations, creating a clear entry point for later research, testing, and revision.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will investigate what beginning home cooks need from a healthy meal, analyze affordability and time constraints, and turn user evidence into an early design brief for a realistic recipe direction.
Days 3 - 6
Ideate & Prototype
Ideate & Prototype
Students will turn user research into multiple meal ideas, build and test low-fidelity recipe prototypes, gather peer and partner feedback, and revise their choices using evidence about taste, safety, cost, time, portion size, and beginner-friendly clarity.
Days 7 - 10
Test & Present
Test & Present
Students will validate their near-final healthy meal designs with representative users, document evidence from taste, clarity, safety, budget, and usability testing, revise their recipe cards and plated meal plans one more time, and present a stakeholder-facing design story that connects user needs to final cooking decisions.
Days 11 - 14
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their tested healthy meal solutions and cookbook pages to an authentic audience, collect evidence-based feedback on taste, affordability, safety, and usability for beginning home cooks, and document how the project changed their cooking decisions, communication, and design thinking.
