Launch
Students will analyze real salon experience examples, learn the project expectations, and begin forming evidence-based ideas for a classroom salon brand and service experience grounded in client needs, professionalism, safety, and teamwork.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will gather direct evidence from potential clients and cosmetology program partners, analyze patterns in client needs and salon expectations, and turn that evidence into a draft How Might We statement and short salon design brief grounded in safety, branding, and service decisions.
Days 3 - 6
Ideate & Prototype
Ideate & Prototype
Students will turn client research into actionable salon design criteria, refine a team How Might We statement, generate several distinct salon concept directions, and build low-fidelity prototypes for their brand, service flow, consultation tools, and layout. They will use structured peer critique and community-informed feedback to revise prototypes so later testing is grounded in client needs, safety expectations, and feasible salon operations.
Days 7 - 10
Test & Present
Test & Present
Students will test their salon brand, service tools, and operational plans with representative users, analyze feedback, complete multiple revision cycles, and assemble a stakeholder-ready prototype package that shows how client evidence shaped final decisions.
Days 11 - 14
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their operational classroom salon plan and design journey to authentic audiences, demonstrate how client evidence shaped final decisions, collect community feedback from the showcase experience, and complete a final reflection on professionalism, collaboration, and next steps.
