Launch
Launch
Students will launch the blood drive challenge by learning from San Diego Blood Bank, observing the donation experience through concrete artifacts and demonstrations, and identifying the donor questions, safety needs, and communication expectations that will guide later research, prototyping, and check-in work.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will gather donor and stakeholder insights, study the science and safety information they need for accurate communication, and turn that evidence into an empathy map, a HIPAA-informed communication brief, and a draft How Might We/design brief for the campus blood drive.
Days 3 - 8
Ideate & Prototype
Ideate & Prototype
Students will turn donor research into design decisions by refining a How Might We statement, generating multiple outreach concepts, building low-fidelity poster and FAQ prototypes, and testing them with users to improve clarity, trust, privacy, and respectful communication before creating refined materials in the next phase.
Days 9 - 13
Test & Showcase
Test & Showcase
Students will refine and validate their blood drive outreach materials through two documented feedback-and-revision cycles, strengthen donor-facing communication for accuracy, inclusion, active listening, and privacy, and prepare a concise stakeholder walkthrough that explains how user feedback shaped their final poster set, FAQ responses, and check-in plan.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their finalized blood drive communication tools and then apply them in the live on-campus blood drive exhibition by checking in donors, answering questions, protecting privacy, and demonstrating professional, evidence-based communication shaped by user feedback.
