Students will notice real classroom problems, discuss what helps people feel safe and ready to learn, and begin their work as Kindergarten Leaders by gathering evidence from a classroom experience, a read-aloud, and shared class decisions.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will interview classmates, observe classroom routines, and collect evidence about what helps people feel safe, treated fairly, and ready to learn. They will organize their findings into simple empathy artifacts, compare patterns across classmates, and use feedback to revise their planning before any final rule or classroom design choices are made.
Days 3 - 6
Design & Prototype
Design & Prototype
Students will turn their classroom observations and empathy research into simple design ideas for rules, jobs, and leadership supports. They will sketch several options, build quick paper prototypes, test them with classmates, gather feedback from peers and an adult, and revise twice so their ideas better help everyone feel safe, fair, and ready to learn.
Days 7 - 10
Refine & Showcase
Refine & Showcase
Students will refine their Kindergarten Leadership Guide pages and classroom community visuals by using evidence from earlier observations, books, and prototype testing. They will complete a final user-check with school adults or another kindergarten audience, revise their work after peer and adult feedback, and prepare to explain how their rules, mission statement, voting choices, and leadership jobs help the classroom stay safe, fair, and ready to learn.
Days 11 - 14
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their Kindergarten Leadership Guide, classroom rules, jobs chart, mission statement, and voting display to school and family audiences, explain how feedback shaped their final choices, and reflect on how they helped build a safe, fair, and ready-to-learn classroom.
