Launch
Students will launch the bee biodiversity and apiary design project by investigating local pollinator phenomena, studying foundational bee biology, practicing observation and citation routines, and producing an evidence-based first investigation question and directional hypothesis for later design and fieldwork.

Problem & Criteria
Students will define a stakeholder-centered bee health and biodiversity problem, research existing habitat and apiary approaches, translate needs into measurable criteria and constraints, and produce a cited, investigation-ready test plan for comparing garden conditions in the school and community gardens.

Concept & Select
Students will generate multiple apiary and pollinator-habitat concepts, compare them against weighted criteria and constraints, gather feedback from peers and a community expert, and justify a team design selection using field evidence, source synthesis, and engineering trade-off analysis.

Prototype & Measure
Prototype & Measure
Students will build and test rapid apiary and habitat prototypes, align each test to measurable criteria and constraints, collect repeated performance and field data with consistent protocols, and use critique cycles to improve both their test plans and prototype evidence for the next phase.
Days 52 - 70
Revise & Retest
Revise & Retest
Students will use prototype test results, field data, and cited research to diagnose weaknesses in their apiary and habitat designs, make targeted revisions, and retest with the same measures to quantify improvement, trade-offs, and remaining limitations before the next roundtable.
Days 71 - 89
Showcase & Defend
Showcase & Defend
Students will assemble and defend a complete evidence-based engineering story for their school garden apiary proposal by curating portfolio artifacts, sharpening data displays and design justifications, critiquing one another’s claims, revising for clarity and scientific accuracy, and preparing for a midpoint-style stakeholder defense before the final public showcase.

Students will finalize and present their apiary prototypes, research portfolios, and pollinator habitat evidence to an authentic audience, then use critique, audience feedback, and self-assessment to document how their investigation and design thinking changed over the full project.
