Launch
Students will launch the service project by locating the VFW on a neighborhood map, listening to a child-friendly service story, asking questions, and generating first ideas for a safe class action that could help others.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Plan
Research & Plan
Students will gather evidence from a VFW guest, neighborhood maps, and shared discussion to understand community service needs and plan a safe, caring class action. They will organize observations, questions, and assumptions into an empathy artifact, then use feedback to draft and revise a simple service design brief that will guide later card and care note creation.
Days 3 - 8
Ideate & Prototype
Ideate & Prototype
Students will turn their research from the VFW visit, neighborhood map, and class charts into a clear service design direction, generate several thank-you card and care note ideas, build rough prototypes, test them with peers and an adult audience, and revise based on feedback before moving into final refinement.
Days 9 - 13
Refine & Present
Refine & Present
Students will refine their thank-you cards, care notes, drawings, journals, and progress poster through two feedback-and-revision cycles, test their messages with a fresh audience, and prepare clear short explanations of how their class service action helped the VFW community.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
Students will share their completed VFW service project with families and community guests, use maps and charts to explain how their caring action helped others, and reflect on how feedback, teamwork, and revision shaped their final work.
