Using a short puzzling data prompt and two contrasting student cases, students identify measurable variables, possible confounding factors, and stronger vs. weaker investigation questions. The class co-creates criteria for an investigable question and a fair hypothesis, then each team drafts one question about screen time and math grade plus a prediction they can test with class data. Teams record their planned quantitative variable pair and their categorical cut points for later table analysis.
