📚 Civil Rights Craft Close Read

Using annotated excerpts from “I Have a Dream,” “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” and one social commentary artwork, students identify tone, symbolism, repetition, and composition choices that shape audience response. In pairs, they sort evidence into claim-evidence-reasoning notes and compare how verbal and visual texts build a call for change. The teacher models how to move from summary to analysis so students are ready for later argument writing and painting design.
