Students will launch the community park redesign project, study who uses public spaces and why thoughtful design matters, then produce three early design-thinking artifacts that define the challenge, identify end users, and generate inquiry questions grounded in evidence and multiple perspectives.
Days 1 - 3
Examine
Examine
Students will investigate community needs, analyze math and design evidence, and use research, user input, and critique to define an evidence-based direction for a park redesign that uses transformations clearly and purposefully.
Days 4 - 14
45 min over capacity (495 min available across 11 days)
Engineer
Engineer
Students will turn research and criteria into evidence-based park design concepts, practice the geometry needed for accurate layouts, build and revise prototypes, and document how feedback improves their solution.
Days 15 - 22
Do
Do
Students will implement a test of their park redesign, treasure-map route, or transformed logo set with real users or peer users, collect evidence about clarity and effectiveness, and use that evidence to make a justified improvement claim before the final share phase.
Days 23 - 24
Share
Share
Students will present evidence of how their community park redesign grew from user research, mathematical reasoning, and iterative testing, then reflect on how their design thinking, collaboration, and communication developed through the project.
