Students practice close reading with selected excerpts from the Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution, marking rhetorical features, purpose, and claims about power, rights, and resistance. The teacher gives a short mini-lesson on how to distinguish summary from analysis and how to log evidence in a source analysis tracker. Students finish by adding two entries to their tracker with credibility notes and possible uses in an argument.
