Students annotate selected excerpts from *Letter from Birmingham Jail* using two color codes: one for MLK’s reasoning about injustice and one for language that suggests emotional, psychological, or human harm. In a whole-class text talk, they compare which lines most strongly support the idea that systemic racism damages well-being and which lines might be interpreted differently. Students finish by adding two claim starters and two quoted passages to an evidence log they will carry into the next phase.
