Empathize
Students will investigate real Vista community needs by noticing problems, learning how inventors respond to users, and gathering first-round evidence from community partners and nonfiction sources before defining a design problem in the next phase.
Days 1 - 4
Define
Define
Students will sort interview and research evidence, identify patterns in real Vista community needs, and turn those findings into a clear problem statement with criteria and constraints that can guide invention work in the next phase.
Days 5 - 8
Ideate
Ideate
Students will generate several invention ideas for a real Vista community problem, compare those ideas to user-centered criteria and constraints, use peer feedback to improve promising concepts, and choose one direction to carry into blueprinting.
Days 9 - 12
Draft
Draft
Students will turn selected invention ideas into measurable blueprints and first-draft physical prototypes, using materials, dimensions, and peer feedback to make design choices they can explain.
Days 13 - 18
Test
Test
Students will test their first invention prototypes with peers and community-connected users, record evidence with simple data tools, and use feedback to decide what should change before the next revision cycle.
Days 19 - 22
Critique
Critique
Students will use evidence from prototype testing, peer critique, and expert feedback to identify strengths and next steps for their Vista community inventions. They will revise blueprints, compare revision options, and prepare a stronger plan for the next phase based on user needs, criteria, and constraints.
Days 23 - 26
Notice & Reflect
Notice & Reflect
Students will curate evidence from their invention journey, rehearse and present their final solution to an authentic audience, and document how research, testing, feedback, and revision shaped their work. They will use speaking, writing, and reflection routines to explain what their team learned about designing for real Vista community needs.
