Using exemplar altars, students analyze how composition, marigolds, portraits, papel picado, candles, color choices, and offerings shape viewer understanding. The teacher models how to move from observation to inference and how to cite visual evidence in art and cultural analysis. Students practice with a short compare-and-contrast of two altar examples in their sketchbooks.
