Students will launch the alebrije project by building a quick paper creature, using Spanish words for colors, body parts, feelings, and preferences, and beginning to notice how alebrijes and Día de los Muertos art communicate identity and culture.

Students will investigate how alebrijes and Día de los Muertos art communicate culture, feelings, and identity, then use Spanish vocabulary for colors, body parts, emotions, and preferences to create and revise an empathy artifact that will guide later design choices.

Students will turn their research and cultural observations into a plan for an original alebrije by naming audience needs, generating several different design ideas, using Spanish sentence frames to explain choices, and selecting one concept to carry forward after peer feedback and a teacher checkpoint.

Students will build and test a low-fidelity 2D paper alebrije and draft Spanish booklet pages, use peer and audience feedback to revise twice, and prepare a short stakeholder-facing share-out that explains design choices, cultural meaning, and next steps.

Students will present their finished 2D paper alebrijes, Spanish booklets, and museum labels to an authentic audience, share one booklet page aloud or through a recording, gather audience responses, and reflect on how feedback, cultural learning, and Spanish helped them communicate their ideas.
