Each student completes a one-page design brief naming the audience, the turning point they may explore, the emotions they want readers to feel, and the craft moves they plan to test. The teacher conferences briefly with students to verify that the brief is specific enough to guide drafting in the next phase. Students revise the brief during class if any part is too broad or unsupported.
