🔎 Search Strings and Lateral Reads

Students build advanced database and web search strings for their neighborhood topic using dates, place names, key actors, and issue-specific terms such as land transfer, migration, labor, housing, shoreline, or pollution. They test search strings in school databases and open web searches, then conduct lateral reading on at least two authors or organizations before deciding whether to keep a source. Students capture search terms, useful databases, and reliability notes in their research notebook.
