Launch
Students will launch the bird nest engineering challenge by building and testing a fast starter nest, analyzing what worked in real and classroom examples, and setting measurable criteria for the longer prototype phase.
Day 1
Build, Test, Refine
Build, Test, Refine
Students will prototype bird nests, use quantitative wind, weight, and shake tests to gather evidence, compare design options with a decision matrix, and revise their structures based on peer critique and measured failure points before moving to the final showcase phase.
Days 2 - 4
Showcase
Showcase
Students will curate and defend their final bird nest designs in a public-style gallery walk, use evidence from testing and revision to explain trade-offs, and close the project with a reflection circle on engineering growth and collaboration.
