Students study strong and weak paired-text inquiry questions, then revise their own question using a mini-lesson on scope, arguability, shared tension, and reading lenses such as structure, voice, power, and credibility. They draft a working hypothesis and identify what kind of evidence from each text could confirm, complicate, or challenge it. Students record the revised question and hypothesis in their investigation journal.
