Students practice evaluating origin, purpose, audience, and limitation on a mixed set of textbook excerpts, speeches, memoir fragments, and images. They then apply a note-coding system in their notebook or digital organizer to tag evidence as cause, effect, continuity, change, or contradiction. The final minutes are used for a peer feedback round where students give feedback to 2 peers, receive feedback, and revise their question or source list.
