Using evidence notebooks from earlier phases, the teacher models how to turn notes into a CER paragraph and a simple counterargument-response with sentence frames. Students practice with one claim about whether the Locktons acted with justice or abuse of power, using one quote from Chains and one fact from a history source. This mini-lesson prepares students to build arguments that address competing perspectives instead of only one side.
