Students study a short model migration narrative and a teacher think-aloud that highlights interview vocabulary, family relationship terms, emotions, and when to use preterite versus imperfect in questions and retells. In pairs, they draft at least six interview questions, then sketch a first visual story map with possible symbols, color ideas, and one personal identity connection on watercolor paper or in a design notebook. They give feedback to 2 peers, receive feedback on clarity and empathy, and revise both the interview questions and story map before submitting them as the entry checkpoint for Phase 2.
