Students rotate through timeline tiles, photographs, maps, advertisements, oral history excerpts, and short community migration stories from the Gold Rush, Dust Bowl, Bracero Program, Great Migration, and Old Hollywood. In small groups, they place event cards on a draft wall timeline, flag uncertain placements with sticky notes, and record first thoughts about what California seemed to offer in each era. The class closes by naming recurring pull factors and unresolved questions in their investigation notebooks.
