1 [Facilitator] Launch the task by posting the essential question and briefly naming the four sort categories: whole-number division, decimal division, fraction division, and rate comparisons. Model one evidence card by thinking aloud about the context, estimating a reasonable quotient, and deciding which model or strategy best fits. (7 min)
2 [Facilitator] Place students in teams and distribute evidence cards, category headers, a pattern chart organizer, sticky flags, and chart paper. Ask teams to complete a first sort, grouping cards by problem type and setting aside any card they are unsure about for later discussion. (10 min)
3 [Facilitator] Guide teams to do a second sort inside each category by strategy or model, such as partial quotients, equivalent ratios, open arrays, ratio tables, or division notation.
