Students test their early claims against new cases, including a quadratic with complex solutions and a quadratic connected to the idea that every quadratic has two roots. In small groups, they decide whether factoring applies over the reals, whether another method would be better, and how this affects the strength of their argument. Each group adds one confirming case and one disconfirming case to its evidence log and revises its wording to avoid overgeneralizing.
