Students view a short set of portrait images selected with support from a museum educator and discuss how artists use facial features, line, pose, and color to communicate mood. After a teacher-modeled think-aloud, students make a fast self-portrait study from a mirror and choose 2-3 colors that match one emotion connected to their current school experience. They finish with a brief partner share describing the emotion, one visual choice, and why that choice helps a viewer understand the portrait.
