🌀 Counterculture Image Sort

Submission Required Grading Required

Students view two projected visuals—a mainstream advertisement and a counterculture optical-art image—and complete a rapid evidence log with first-noticed message, visual devices, and likely audience effect. In pairs, they sort observations into symbolism, contrast, repetition, figure-ground reversal, color choice, and ambiguity, then build a short CER response to the question of which image more effectively challenges dominant values. Pairs exchange CERs with 2 peers for feedback on weak evidence, unsupported claims, and missing counterinterpretations, then revise before a whole-class poll and brief introduction to the poster, artist statement, and 60-second critique expectations.
