Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Content Expertise Effective Communication Academic Mindset Submission Required

Students view 2-3 short documentary excerpts and track evidence in a documentary investigation chart: focus statement, beginning/middle/end structure, interview or narration use, b-roll evidence, and editing choices that shaped meaning. The class then sorts observations into 'documentary,' 'montage,' and 'vlog' characteristics using shared vocabulary and discusses how each film helped the audience understand a real person, place, idea, or experience. Students end by writing one investigable question about how filmmakers make real stories clear and interesting.
