🧩 Heart & Wheels HMW Statement

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Collaboration Effective Communication SCI.3.CC.2 SCI.3.CC.4 SCI.3.CC.6 Submission Required

In teams of 3–4, students review their individual empathy maps and interview notes (from the P.E. teacher and classmates) and highlight repeated needs or surprises about heart rate, breathing, and muscle fatigue during biking. Teams cluster evidence into 3–4 themes (e.g., “hard to see what’s happening inside,” “confusing heart rate numbers,” “don’t know why breathing gets faster”) using chart paper. Using a sentence frame, teams write one clear How Might We statement and a 1-paragraph rationale that includes at least two direct quotes or data points from research. Teams exchange statements with another group for feedback on whether the problem is grounded in user evidence or based on assumptions, then revise before submission.
