Students work in small teams to follow cause-and-effect and problem-and-solution clues hidden around the classroom. Each clue includes signal words and short informational passages that lead to a 'treasure' collection of local news articles and library books. The class debrief connects how structure helps readers understand community issues and introduces the Essential Question.
