📝 Grocery Budget Question & Hypothesis
KY.3.NBT.1
Submission Required
Students begin their Rounding Research Notebook by examining a short sample grocery list (10 items with prices). Individually, they write initial observations about how rounding might change the total cost. In pairs, they refine a focused investigable question such as, “How does rounding each item to the nearest ten change our total grocery estimate compared to the exact total?” Each student records a final research question and a specific hypothesis predicting whether rounding to tens or hundreds will overestimate or underestimate the budget, with a brief place-value rationale.
