Using their graphs and tables, students annotate directly on their visualizations to identify patterns (waxing to waning sequence, illumination increase/decrease, approximate 29.5-day cycle) and at least one anomaly or irregularity. They reference Earth–Sun–Moon positioning to explain why the pattern occurs and avoid the misconception that Earth’s shadow causes regular phases.
